PHILOSOPHERS

During some class we've worked in groups about differents philosophers. The class was divide in groups of four or five person and we chose one philosopher of the philosopher that Megan give us. Our group consisted by Belen Orquín, Isabel Muñoz, Alba Soriano, María García and Cristina de la Riva. We've chose Epicurus.
Each group have to do a presentation where explicated his life, his society, his works, books and tittles, and the philosophy of each philosopher.
Epicurus was an important philosopher that lived in Ancient Greece.
He founded a philosophy called Epicureanism. It was based  on getting  the happines and tranquility through fulfilment of pleasures.
The most of his works disappeared, because Christianity condemned his philosophy. He founded a system of philosophy based upon the teachings of him called epicureanism arround 307 BC. Basically he believed in Ataraxia that means perfect happiness. In Epicurus opinion to achieve Ataraxia you should avoid pain.

Socrates was an important individual who certainly left his mark on how people evaluate the world around them, and his ideas still shape a lot of educational philosophy and logia thought. All the scientist who lived before Socrates were called the pre-Socrates. Socrates died for his beliefs about citizenship and he died under the death penalty. Socrates believed that bad behaviour was the result of lack of knowledge and could be corrected through learning and better understanding.

Plato was born in Athens in 428BC. He was a classical greek philosopher and matemathican. The most important virtues of him was
  • Wisdom: Apply laws (original ideas).
  • Courage: Channel rage → Good things.
  •  Moderation: Control bodily appetites.

Stoicism derives its name from the Painted Porch in the market place... of Athens, where it was first taught. It was founded by Zeno of Citium (or Cyprus) (335-263 BC) and became one of the two principal philosophical schools of the Hellenistic world. Later Stoics believed that the universe was created by fire and would be destroyed by fire, before being created again. People who believed in this ethics were called “Stoics”. The stoics have a very negative idea about pleasure and emotions, so their goal is to have a clear mind. They defended that the emotions can get in the way of your performance in your daily life. For example, if someone that you love so much dies, you don't have to cry because probably you are going to do in a badway your job or your obligations.

During this work, we argued a lot with Antonio, because he told us that we have to do an exam about every philosophers. We have to make notes when we'd see the presentations. This is very difficult, therefore at the beginning we are goint to refuse doing the exam.
Finally, we spoke with Antonio and noticed that the test not are so difficult.

The 27th of April, we explained our philosophers to the rest of the class. A group didn't do that, because a member don't come to class.

25th of May

Today we started the class checking the homework about ethics and politics.
Some people participated in the correction of the homework. Meghan helped us in the pronunciation and in the exercises that we didn't know.
Then we did the surprise party for Meghan. We went to the Plaza Doña Elvira and there we gave the presents to her and the cake. Meghan gave us a lolliposp and a beautiful card with our names and a little dedication.
We are going to miss her.

1st of April

In this day, we did the voluntary exam of Gandhi's book.
The most of the student did the exam that had three questions. The first question was a sum of sentences that could be true or false. In the second question, there was a text where we had to choose the correct answer. Finally, the third question consisted on writing a text about three different topics, I wrote my opinion about Gandhi.

After the exam, we did the blog and spoke about our answer in the exam.
